Fine vertical lines around the mouth can develop over time from repeated movement, collagen loss, and changes in skin quality.

The perioral region is one of the most dynamically active areas of the face. The orbicularis oris — the circular muscle surrounding the mouth — is responsible for an enormous range of movements: pursing, kissing, speaking, drinking, and hundreds of microexpressions throughout the day.
The skin immediately surrounding the vermilion border is thin and closely adherent to the underlying muscle, with limited subcutaneous fat for cushioning. This combination of high dynamic activity and thin skin creates the conditions for early line formation compared to other facial areas.
Light hands and conservative doses make the difference between refreshed and over-treated in this area.

Perioral skin smooth; lines visible only with active pursing.
Early dynamic lines persist briefly after expression in patients with high perioral activity.
Static lip lines visible at rest; lip volume begins to thin.
Established vertical creases with volume loss and bone resorption compounding appearance.
The perioral skin is smooth and resilient. Lines visible only during active expression, disappearing fully at rest.
Early dynamic line persistence in patients with high perioral muscle activity. Faint creases may remain briefly after pursing.
Static lip lines become visible at rest. Lip volume thinning compounds the perioral aging appearance.
Established vertical creases with significant volume loss and bone resorption beneath the perioral region. Multiple treatment approaches typically needed.
Soften vertical lip lines that deepen the perioral aging pattern
Improve the way lipstick applies across the vermilion border
Address perioral aging without the over-treated result patients are trying to avoid
Lip line treatment at CAMI uses a combination of wrinkle relaxers for the orbicularis oris and very soft filler for etched static lines. The relaxer dose in this area is intentionally conservative — too much restriction creates speech and movement issues. We treat the dynamic component first and reassess static lines separately.
For static creases, superficial-plane filler or biostimulator treatment can help rebuild the dermal structure that's thinned. We avoid overfilling — the perioral area has almost no tolerance for volume excess, and the transition from softened lines to overfilled lips is one of the most commonly regretted aesthetic outcomes.
